Worth Taking Home

Bread coming out of the oven, jars lined up on the shelves, bottles waiting to be opened.

This part of the space invites wandering, noticing, and asking questions. Much of what you see starts with conversation, staying close to the people who make these things, talking through new batches, seasonal changes, and ideas worth sharing. It’s a slower way of choosing that gives this part of The Deli Social its character and, it’s those relationships quietly shape the shelves, the counter, and the table.

The Bakery

Our bakery begins with focaccia.

Made entirely in-house, it’s slow-fermented, baked fresh, and firmly at the centre of our kitchen. Handled with care and given the time it needs, it’s just as good taken home on its own as it is holding everything together on the menu.

Each morning, before the day really begins, the rest of the bakery arrives, breads and pastries delivered early, as the lights come on and the counter is set.

It means everything you see is fresh, ready, and made for the day ahead. Alongside this, we offer a small but decadent selection of cakes from our friend Elmarié at Mondvol Soet, baked with care and brought in to be shared, enjoyed at the table, or to enjoy later on.

We work thoughtfully and waste as little as possible, turning what’s left into crisp crackers for the tasting table.

The Coffee

Coffee, made with care

We serve coffee roasted locally by World of Speciality Coffee, a Cape Town roaster we’re proud to work with. Their approach mirrors ours, focused on craft, sustainability, and supporting the people behind the cup.

Since 2016, they’ve grown from a small garage operation into a trusted specialty coffee partner, working closely with cafés through roasting, equipment, and hands-on barista training. It’s a collaborative approach that values consistency, curiosity, and doing things properly.

Here, coffee is treated as a skill as much as a service, dialled in carefully, made with attention, and finished by a barista who knows when to adjust, when to wait, and when to let things be.

Coffee made thoughtfully, served easily. The kind you come back for, day after day.

Cheese & Charcuterie

Our cheese and charcuterie counter is a place to slow down and explore.

The selection changes gently, guided by what’s tasting good, what’s just been made, and the producers we’re excited to share at the moment. You’ll find a mix of cows’ and goats’ milk cheeses alongside carefully cured meats, sliced to order and best enjoyed with good bread, something tangy from the shelves, or a glass of wine. If you’re curious, we’re always happy to talk you through what’s on the counter -where it comes from, how it’s made, and how we like to enjoy it.

Is a family run dairy in Prince Albert who make natural products using raw milk from their own herd of Guernsey cows.

Artisanal cheeses with interesting flavour profiles from Velddrif.

Farmhouse cheeses made from raw milk in the Karoo, with a strong sense of place.

Fresh Italian-style cheeses made in Cape Town.

The Deli

Take it home

Think of the deli as an extension of the table. A small, considered collection of jars, bottles, and pantry goods chosen for how they taste and how they’re used, things that sit comfortably alongside our bread, cheese, and food at home.

We bring things in slowly and with intention, usually after tasting them ourselves and seeing how they work with what’s on the counter and the table.

If it’s on the shelf, it’s something we use in our kitchen and enjoy sharing. A mix of the familiar and the unexpected, pantry staples, thoughtful preserves, and small additions that round out the table.

The selection changes gently, shaped by season, availability, and what’s tasting good. We’re always happy to talk you through what’s there, suggest pairings, or help you find something that fits how you like to eat.

Best explored in person.
